Some Things change, others don’t

Ok I know that this one is short but the idea had been rolling around my brain for a few days so I did this to extract it.

SUMMARY: Willow tries the soul restoring spell on Spike.

DISCLAIMER: It don’t own any of these characters, they all belong to Joss Whedon and Co so no infringement intended because you wouldn’t get much if you sued anyway.

Buffy patted Willow reassuringly on the back as she saw her snap her gaze back to the book that she was meant to be working on when Spike let out a low, threatening growl.

“Just ignore him Will,” she said sitting on the table next to her rather nervous best friend.

Spike hadn’t had a good night. He had been happily enjoying his hunt and had just finished his first-course when he felt something sharp dig into his side, he turned around to extract the offending object to find the smiling slayer bitch holding a tranquilizing gun, who before he could say anything, fired a second shot into his side causing him to fall down into the thick darkness. That was when he’d awoken to find himself chained quite securely to a bloody chair in the middle of the bloody school library with a smug-looking slayer and her Scooby gang mates sat ignoring him for the last hour or so.

“What the hell are you lot playin’ at?” he asked, growing increasingly irritated with the whole situation.

Still ignoring the agitated vampire, Giles turned to Willow.  “Are we ready?’” he asked softly but still caused her to jump slightly.

“I-I think so…” she said sounding less than convinced.

“So what can I do?” Xander asked as bounded up hopefully.

“Erm, well…nothing,” Giles said plainly.

“Ok,” Xander said letting that comment drop.  “Oh I know, I’ll stand guard at the door, y’know to make sure nothing gets in,” he said, quickly moving to the double doors, but walking around the edge of the room, avoiding Spike.

Buffy hopped off the table gracefully as Giles lowered the round glass orb onto the middle carefully before taking a step back and nodding at Willow.

Spike stared intently at the small redheaded girl as she began to read aloud.

Oh this is great, they’re trying to bore me to death! he thought to himself as he tried to shuffle in his seat as he was getting a dead leg, which was ironic.

Buffy took a further step away from the table as the orb began to glow with a weird golden light which made the room feel slightly electrified.

Willow began to chant faster and faster in that bizarre language that Buffy didn’t even know how to pronounce the title of, the book that she was reading from fell to the floor but it didn’t matter, it was if Willow was possessed by the words, which flowed through her like water. Suddenly her thoughts of her best friend were shattered as she heard and ear-piercing howl that was definitely inhuman.

She span round to face Spike as the orb stopped glowing and Willow fell back onto the table and was assisted back to her feet by a waiting Oz.

The sound that was obviously coming from Spike stopped but he still was in obvious pain, is body was tensed as his back arched as far as his restraints would allow from the chair and his eyes forced shut.

Buffy took an cautious step forward as she saw Spike's body relax, his gaze settle on the floor as he said quiet and perfectly still, if she didn’t know any better she would’ve sworn that he was dead.

“Did it work? I mean, has he got his soul back?” Willow asked a slightly stunned-looking Giles.

“I can’t be certain,” he said never lifting his eyes from the motionless vampire.

Buffy took another step forward and bent down in front of the vampire, hoping to see his expression or the look in his eyes but he avoided her eyes.  “Spike?” she said softly.

He didn’t reply.

“Spike?” she repeated again, placing her hand on his leg to get his attention.  But again there was silence.  Buffy rose to her feet as Spike looked up at her, she couldn’t tell what he was thinking from his face, had it worked? She couldn’t tell.

“Xander, untie him,” she said still staring into his vacant eyes.

Xander looked around at the others before he stepped forward, fumbling momentarily with the key as he unlocked the chains that bound the creature before quickly stepping away.

The was a short pause before anything happened, then Spike rose to his feet in one swift movement causing the chains to clatter gracelessly to the floor.

Buffy took a further step forward.

“How do you feel?” she said softly, placing her hand on his arm

Spike smiled slightly and the others all felt slight relived by this.

“Well actually…” Spike started before lifting his arm in one quick movement, swatting Buffy to the floor. “I’ve had a bit of a crap night if you really want to know.”

Buffy skidded on the floor, taken back by the sudden attack as they all were.

“But…but…you were meant…” Willow said feeling shaken.

“What?” Spike laughed. “Meant to get my soul and then suddenly go, ‘Oh I’m soooo sorry for everything I’ve ever done to anybody!’ Please,” he chuckled, “What do you all think I am? Peaches?” he asked smirking.

“But it worked,” Buffy said getting up off the floor. “I saw it in your eyes, your soul was there but…”

“Oh I think I got me soul back,” he said confusing them further. “But big surprise for you children, I was never particularly a nice bloke when I was alive so when I died well, lets just say that my talents were improved upon,” he said turning for the door.

Xander scooted out of his way when he turned back to look at their faces.

“Actually the night hasn’t been so bad, just to see the look on all your faces…” he chuckled heading out of the doors.

They all stood stunned for a moment as Spike’s voice trailed down the corridor as he headed out of the school.

“Oh I wish I had a camera,” he laughed. “I should go into acting!” he said, leaving them as his smug laughter echoed around the halls.

THE END
